Introduction
Located in the heart of Dibrugarh University, the Lakshminath Bezbaroa Library — nomenclatured as Lakshminath Bezbaroa Library (Dibrugarh University Library and Knowledge Centre) in the 109th meeting of the Library Advisory Committee, D.U. — serves as the central information resource centre of Dibrugarh University, catering to the information needs of the entire fraternity of the university and its affiliated colleges. The library collection encompasses a wide range of subjects and disciplines of human endeavour.
The Lakshminath Bezbaroa Library originated in April, 1967 after two years of establishment of Dibrugarh University in 1965. The library initially began operating in a single room adjacent to the Department of Education (formerly known as Institute of Education) at the DHSK Commerce College, Dibrugarh with a collection of 997 books. In mid 1967, the library was permanently relocated to the Dibrugarh University campus in Rajabheta, Dibrugarh. The library was first led by Deputy Librarian Mr. Ramesh Phukan, M.A (English), Diploma in Library Science (BHU). Besides promoting an environment conducive for providing information resources and services to its clientele in a timely and ethical manner, the library actively supports education, research and innovations.
