Dibrugarh University Institute of Engineering & Technology (A Constituent College of Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh) was established by Dibrugarh University in the year 2009 with due approval from the Government of Assam. The Institute offer four year B.Tech. Programme in the branch of Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering with an approved intake of 60 in each branch. All the programmes are duly approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The Institute has gained a synergic affect by accessing the common and central facilities of the University like the library, health Centre, canteens & cafeteria, sports & gymnasium, training & placement and also opportunity to participate in the various programmes organized by the University. The University provides in-campus hostel facilities for both girls and boys under the custodian of experienced wardens and support staffs.

The Institute has 40 teaching faculties specialized in different areas of Engineering and Technology. The Institute has received a grant in aid in the tune of Rs. 7.0 crores from All India Council for Technical Education under the NEQIP scheme for Infrastructural Development of the Institute to increase the employability of the students. The Electronics and Communication Engineering Department has been awarded a research grant from Department of Information Technology (DyEIT), Government of India amounting Rs. 55.50 Lakhs in the year 2014 and the Civil Engineering (Geotechnical) Consultancy work mobilized by the Institute is Rs. 15.00 Lakhs. It is expected that the Institute will go further to help the society in the area of Academics, Research, Consultancy and Transfer of Technology for upliftment of the society.

DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE & ENGINEERING

 

Profile:

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering was started in August, 2009 with AICTE recognition and is housed in the I.T. Building, DU. The curriculum for B. Tech Programme in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) with 66 courses/188 credits covers core courses in basic sciences, humanities, environmental studies, mathematics and computer science and engineering based courses.

CSE at DUIET (Dibrugarh University Institute of Engineering and Technology) offers Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering with an intake capacity of 60 in 1st Semester and 12 as in 3rd Semester through Lateral Entry for Diploma-passed and B.Sc. candidates. The first batch passed out in the year of 2013 and 4 (four) out of 18 (eighteen) was placed in ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation). 4 students have cleared GATE and pursued M.Tech from renowned universities and institutes. Rests of them have joined software companies located at Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune. The next batches have continued the legacy by maintaining off campus placements after passing out in four years from CSE at DUIET. The department has 6(six) faculty members who have done graduation and post graduation from esteemed colleges and universities, and 1(one) Laboratory Instructor who has done his diploma in Computer Science and Engineering.

 The department has four laboratories including two programming Laboratories, one Network and Security Laboratory and one Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. The department has continuously used ICT based learning methodology with an MOU with Spoken Tutorial at IIT Bombay funded by MHRD Govt. of India. The materials and resources for a few languages like C, C++, Java, Python, LEX are being used from resources uploaded in the Spoken Tutorial site. In the last academic session of 2016, a Big Data workshop has been organized at the Department of CSE DUIET under the NEQIP Phase II scheme funded by AICTE. The department has been effectively practicing outcome-based education since its establishment in 2009.

The department has been facilitated under a voluminous library located at the Core building of DUIET, which caters to the needs of students, research scholars and faculty.

The undergraduate Programme has been awarded by the Dibrugarh University from the academic year 2013 onwards. It is positive reflection on the academic excellence nurtured by the institute. Academic Flexibility has been provided to periodically review the course contents and mechanisms of course delivery in the light of changing demands of the market.

The Institution has well-Qualified, Experienced & Dedicated faculty and staff members. The department has the most advanced laboratories for practical training, state of the art computing facilities, spacious classrooms with good furniture and A/V aids, and 24x7 internet facilities in the departments and hostels. The Institution has collaborative & extension activities by way of MOUs with various Governmental and Non-Governmental organizations for fostering Academic/ Research/ Innovation.

An alumni base of over 300 most of them occupying coveted positions in various Educational, Industrial and Research organizations.

Thrust Area of the Computer Science & Engineering Department :

The CSE department has a pool of motivated and committed faculty members in several research areas like networks, machine learning, data analytics, theoretical computer science, software engineering, etc.

On the networking front, peer to peer communication, behaviour analysis of wireless node are the thrust area.

The department has a very active machine learning group which deals with visual recognition, biometrics, deep learning, intelligent systems, computer vision. The data analytics group focuses on various aspects of big data, predictive analytics, data mining etc.

The theoretical research group has a broad range of interests in algorithms, combinatorics and complexity, with specific interests in graph theory.

Our research interest in software engineering is principally of two kinds: developing improved models and techniques for the design and implementation of large complex software systems that must satisfy rich, often under-specified, requirements in their operating environments; and developing improved models and techniques for formal analysis of software components to ensure or determine specific formalizable properties.

Overall, the department is well represented in various fundamental and applied research areas of computer science and Engineering.

Mechanical Engineering

Profile: The department was started in 2009 under the Dibrugarh University Institute of Engineering & Technology, a constituent institute of Dibrugarh University, Assam for offering B.Tech degree with an annual intake of 72 students. The Department also offered M.Tech Programme in Fluid, Thermal & Energy in the year 2013. Both the B.Tech and M. Tech programmes are approved by AICTE.
Vision of the Department:  The Mechanical Engineering department endeavours to be recognised as one of the premier engineering departments at the national level by attracting the brightest minds of the nation through its continual pursuits for excellence in education and cutting edge research.

The Department of Petroleum Engineering was started in August, 2009 as one of the principal branches in Dibrugarh University Institute of Engineering and Technology (DUIET), Dibrugarh University. The curriculum for 4 year (8 semesters) B. Tech. programme in Petroleum Engineering with 66 courses/188 credits covers core courses of basic sciences, humanities, environmental studies, mathematics and petroleum engineering based courses. The intake capacity is 25 in 1st Semester and 5 in 3rd Semester through Lateral Entry for Diploma-passed and B.Sc. candidates.

Our curriculum addresses the profound new economic and technological changes sweeping the international oil and gas industry, and prepares graduates to meet the imposing challenges of the global petroleum economy. The curriculum has been designed to introduce students to the petroleum industry early in the second year, but also includes studies in Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry, Basic Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Engineering Mechanics Laboratories and Engineering Workshop apart from Engineering Mathematics and Humanities subjects in the first year in order to enhance students’ broad understanding of the different aspects of science and engineering which make up the petroleum exploration and production industry.

There are numerous opportunities for our students to participate in student organizations which include Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Student Chapter (SPE-Dibrugarh University), PETROTECH Student Chapter (PETROTECH- Dibrugarh University), etc. The presence of international students from Yemen, Tanzania at the Department of Petroleum Engineering will further complement our effort in producing well-rounded petroleum graduates who are ready to face the challenges in global oil and gas industry.

Thrust Area:

The department focuses research within the following areas:

  1. Unconventional gases – Due to the rapid depletion of the existing conventional gases, the department is focusing on Unconventional gases like tight gas, coal bed methane, shale gas, gas hydrates etc. It represents an extremely large natural gas resource that requires additional research and technology development to be economically produced.
  2. Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) - EOR is a stage of hydrocarbon production that involves use of sophisticated techniques to recover more oil than would be possible by utilizing only primary production or waterflooding. EOR encompasses a range of techniques used to restore formation pressure and improve hydrocarbon displacement or fluid flow in the reservoir.  This technique is usually reserved for more advanced, in situ processes that are capable of achieving additional oil recovery through discrete mobilization mechanisms and, in some cases, improving reservoir sweep efficiency. The department already has a well equipped EOR/IOR laboratory.
  3. Drilling fluid design - Drilling fluid has been treated as the blood in human body in the oil well drilling process. Optimum properties of the drilling fluid are the most important criteria for a successful drilling operation. The department has well equipped laboratory for conducting experiments for measuring the important drilling fluid properties.
