The Centre for Studies in Geography at Dibrugarh University is a dynamic and innovative academic Centre dedicated to the comprehensive study of the Earth’s landscapes, environments, and spatial relationships. Established in the year 2008, the centre has continually evolved to meet the demands of a dynamic and rapidly changing world. The Centre for Studies in Geography consists of a dedicated team of five faculty members. Each member brings a unique perspective and specialization to the Centre, enriching the academic environment and providing students with a broad range of expertise to draw from. Since our inception in 2008, our vision has been to cultivate a generation of geographers and spatial thinkers who are not only well-versed in theory but also capable of making a tangible impact on the world. We strive to provide a supportive and intellectually stimulating environment where students can explore the multifaceted dimensions of geography.

Our mission is to foster a deep understanding of the world’s diverse physical and human landscapes while equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to address contemporary global challenges. We are dedicated to promoting geographic literacy, critical thinking, and spatial analysis. Our vision is to be recognized as a global leader in geographical research and education, shaping the next generation of geographers, environmental scientists, and spatial analysts who contribute to the sustainable and equitable development of society. The Centre encourages student involvement in extracurricular activities, including geography clubs, field trips, and community outreach programs. These activities enhance students’ practical knowledge and foster a sense of responsibility towards society and the environment.

Alumni Success:
The alumnus of Centre for Studies in Geography has gone on to achieve success in various sectors, including academia, government, environmental consulting, urban planning, and international organizations. They credit their strong academic foundation and hands-on experiences at our department for their achievements. Most of the students have qualified NET/JRF during their academic period and some of them later after completion of their masters.

• M.A./M.Sc. in Geography: The Centre has been a pioneer in providing a comprehensive two-year Master of Arts (M.A.) and Masters of Science (M.Sc.) program in Geography offering students the opportunity to delve deeper into physical geography, geospatial technologies and advance research methods. This program is designed to equip students with a profound understanding of geographical principles, human-environment interactions, and spatial analysis.

• Ph.D. in Geography: In addition to our master’s programs, the centre offers a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Geography, providing aspiring researchers with the opportunity to delve into advanced studies, contribute to the field’s knowledge base, and pursue original research.
