Dibrugarh university has introduced Applied Psychology at Post Graduate Diploma level in collaboration with Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh leading to Master’ in Applied Psychology with a permission from the State Government of Assam from the Academic Session 2010-11. The Programme is designed in modular form where the first two semesters (1st and 2nd) shall be considered for the PGDAP and the remaining two (3rd and 4th) semesters cumulatively with the first two semesters have been for the Master’s in Applied Psychology. There is also the provision of latterl entry in the Master’s in Applied psychology Programme for the candidates who have background on any branch of psychology at master's level or PG diploma level shall also be eligible for admission to the MA (AP) programme. In that case, the candidate shall have to take admission in the third semester.
1st batch of MA in Applied Psychology has already passed out in 2012. More than 80% students of 1st batch have already got abjorbed in different fields of psychology. Among them one student has been selected for M.Phil in Clinical Psychology at national level which is recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). And many others have already got appointed as clinical psychologiest /councellorsin different district's Civil Hospitals in Assam.

Method of selection
Selection for admission in both the progarmmes shall be made through an admission test or interview or on merit basis to be determined by the university.
The programme is designed
Ø To equip the candidates with requisite skills in diagnosis of human problem in various fields of life.
Ø To design and implement problem-solving strategies and intervention programme.
Ø There is another important part to be completed by the students in Field Work. In the Field work or training, actual cases will be provided to the students to test competence in diagnosis, treatment or problem-solving, action plan and decision making.
