Centre for Bioinformatics Studies, is only the centre providing M.Sc Bioinformatics,Ph D Bioinformatics Course in entire North East India. The centre was established in 17th August , 2007 in Joint academic collaboration with RMRC-ICMR(Indian Council of Medical Research) and NEIST, Jorhat (Formerly RRL, Jorhat).The Centre has good academic relationship with various Research and Educational institutions like Bose Institute, Kolkata, SCF Bio, IIT Delhi, Assam Agricultural University etc. The passed out students has been absorbed in RMRC, NEIST, NERIST, Assam Agricultural University, Rajiv Gandhi University, BCIL and various colleges and Research organizations.
The Centre has well furnished class rooms LCD Projectors ,Laptops and OHPs for Class Room Demonstration.Centre has its own library apart from Central Library. Dry Laboratory Practical is done in the Centre’s Laboratory and Wet Laboratory Practical is Conducted under the supervision of Sr. Scientists of RMRC-ICMR, Lahoal.
Centre has air conditioned computer lab with 20 high end terminals with 24x7 dedicated high speed internet connection and 5 KVA UPS support. Computer Lab has all softwares needed for Bioinformatics education and research.
Central Library is equipped with more than 2 Lacs title and various journals and conference proceedings. Where as departmental library has more than 200 titles on the subject. Departmental library is now supported by UGC Funding apart from Centre’s own funding. So the departmental library will be prospering in new future.
Central Placement Committee has more than 30 members and Departmental Placement Cell is headed by Mr. Subrata Sinha with two core members from teaching staff’s of the centre and two student coordinators.
Newly Constructed Research and Development Cell of the centre is responsible for finding the research aptitude in students and making arrangement for the publishing of students paper in various National and International Conferences. Because of the effort of the cell our students published their research work in relevant seminars, conferences and journals.
The prime objective of the Centre for Bioinformatics Studies, D.U., is to generate efficient manpower in the field of Bioinformatics.
