Mass Communication education in India has gained impetus in recent times due to the ever increasing demand of skilled professionals in the field as well as in the academic sphere. Keeping an eye to the requirement of such proficient persons in this part of the country, Dibrugarh University established the Centre for Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication in July 2008. Since its inception, it has remained successful to establish itself as a premier centre for studies in Journalism and Mass Communication in Upper Assam. Quality training and media education at post graduate level have been provided by the centre throughout the last six years. In this process equal emphasis is put on both theoretical aspects and practical training. The centre is well equipped with good quality infrastructure enabling the students to practice in both print and electronic media productions.

Courses offered:
M.A. in Mass Communication(Four Semesters)

Selection Procedure:
M.A. in Mass Communication 1st Semester:
i) Percentage of marks in TDC (B.A. /B.Sc. /B. Com. / other equivalent degree from a UGC recognized university) = 45% (5% relaxable for SC/ST candidates)
ii) An Entrance Test is conducted to prepare a merit list

Departmental Activities:
As part of its practical exercises, a monthly newsletter titled DU Newsletter is published covering various news and events in and around the university campus. Students are also assigned to produce radio programmes and documentary films as part of their curriculum. Internship facilities are arranged for the students of the centre in different reputed media organizations in order to provide them with the necessary exposure to various media practices. Award winning films and documentaries are screened for the students every week. Guest speakers and faculties are invited to interact with students from reputed media organizations and the universities across the country. Workshops and seminars on media are organized from time to time in the centre.


Placement:
The centre has a good placement record. The passed out students are in service in different public and private sector organizations, media houses, colleges and educational institutions. Some of the recent recruiters are Indian Oil Corporation, Radio Mirchi, Hindustan Times, The Assam Tribune, The Sentinel, The Telegraph, All India Radio, Doordarsan, PratidinTime, DY 365, Asomiya Pratidin, Assam talks,  Amar Asom etc.The centre works in coordination with the Placement Cell of Dibrugarh University.
