In our day to day life, all of us face different situations in our lives which may be hard to deal with on our own at times. This is especially true for young students who enter into a new phase of life when they enroll themselves in a university in order to pursue various Courses and Programmes at an advanced level. Often, along with the new academic challenges in a new environment, they also face various sorts of crises like making all sorts of adjustments in a new setting, difficulties in the emerging and past relationships, health issues, financial or personal difficulties, academic and social stress owing to the change in educational and social environments – any, or all of which, may hamper their overall psychological well being. The severe competition, pressure, criticism from others, low esteem and lack of self confidence, inadequate recreation and relaxation opportunities and end-hour hurried learning for various in-semester and end-semester assessments often push some students over the brink, leading to increased stress levels among these young students.
Mental health and well being of students are integral to measure the health and success of a learning campus in today’s world, as both are major components of overall holistic health of youth. Seeking these two goals in one’s life is not something to be afraid of and there should be no shame, stigma or blame attached to it. Thus, in order to be learner-friendly and to ensure healthy and holistic development of all its students as also the University members on its campus, the Dibrugarh University seeks to provide a comprehensive strategy to ensure mental health and well-being of everyone on its campus.
The Center for Studies in Behavioral Sciences (CSBS), DU, which offers the academic programme MA in Applied Psychology, would like to extend a helping hand on this front, and offer the skill and expertise of its faculty members, for Extension services and support in the form of Counselling services to all the students who feel lonely and insecure, confused and in need of a helping hand and support at times in their lives during their stay within the Campus. Our mission and goal is to promote an enabling environment in the University campus so as to promote positive and all-round development of all within this campus, so that their stay in this campus becomes full of positivity and growth for all learners – both personally and professionally.
The teachers of the CSBS, DU, are available in the Center on all working days of the week from 9.30 AM - 5.30 PM. We also offer regular and voluntary Counselling Services in the Counseling Cell, of the Dibrugarh university Health center, on all these days from 3.00 PM to 5.00 PM.
